1. Overview
1.1 Competition Rules
Venue Development, Inc. (“VDI“) has established these rules, (“Rules“) to govern all of Viper Days /The Performance Driving School (“PDS“), Viper Days, Michelin Challenge Series, events beginning on or after January 1, 2008.
1.2 Revision of Rules
VDI may revise the Rules at any time without prior written notice. The PDS and Viper Days web sites are the source of the official Rules. It will be kept current and any changes indicated with dates.
1.3 Interpretation and Application of Rules
The Rules shall not be given a strained or tortured interpretation and shall be applied in a logical manner. The interpretation and application of the Rules by VDI representatives shall be binding and final. All such determinations are final and no participant shall initiate litigation against PDS and/or VDI or its representatives as a result of such determination, and if such litigation is initiated, said participant shall reimburse VDI and its representatives for all costs of litigation, including travel and lodging.
1.4 Reservation of Rights
VDI reserves the right in its sole and absolute discretion to deny the issuance of any license, revoke any previously issued license, or otherwise bar any person from participation in a VDI event. VDI may also restrict the number of cars which may participate in any event, restrict the event to certain classes, or restrict the event to certain drivers.
1.5 Eligible Drivers
Applications will be accepted from owners of selected marques or immediate family members. Drivers participating in the VDI rental program are also eligible.
A VRL driver cannot run in the Michelin Challenge Series with their race car. However if they want additional track time it is available for purchase and their times will not be counted towards MCS.
If a VRL driver has a second car and wants to participate they must pay a second entry and can compete in MCS.
1.6 Eligible Cars
Entry into VDI will be limited to invited marques. All Viper RT/10's, SRT-10's and Corvettes must run with a hardtop, a roll bar or roll hoops provided by VDI. This is a safety and insurance requirement.
2. Entries
2.1 Acceptance of Entry
An entry is considered official when VDI has received all completed paperwork, including the application, medical form, disclaimers, technical inspection forms, etc., the entry fee has been paid in full, and all other amounts due to VDI have paid in full. VDI have the right to refuse an entry at their discretion without giving a reason for refusal. The events will operate regardless of weather conditions.
Any driver who chooses to enter multiple classes will pay an entry fee for each class entered.
2.12 Entry Fees
The entry fee for the driving school is $695.00 for 2008. Certain tracks have a higher fee.
Friday all day will be $395.00
Friday 1/2 day will be $295.00
2.12.1 VCA Discount
As a Viper Club of America membership number you will receive a $50.00 discount on your first entry for the calendar year. You will also receive an additional $50.00 discount off your entry of your fourth event of the year (Finals not included).
2.15 Late Entry
There will be a late entry fee of $50.00 if the application has not been received 7 days prior to the event.
2.2 Falsification of Entry
An entry which contains a false or incorrect statement may be determined to be null and void by VDI, the entry fee may be forfeited, licenses may be revoked, and further penalties may be imposed, including fines and/or temporary suspension or permanent expulsion from any future VDI events.
2.25 Falsification of Class
Any driver who intentionally misrepresents his vehicle will be subject to the following:
- A fine of $250.00 per infraction will be charged to the driver and payable at that time. Failure to pay these fines will result in the expulsion from all future events until such fines are paid in full.
- Any points accumulated during that event will be forfeited.
- No refund will be given if the driver decides not to participate in that event.
2.3 Withdrawal of Entry
An entry may be withdrawn without penalty if the withdrawal is made 14 days before the event. In such cases, the entire entry fee shall be applied to a future event within the current season which is considered over after Finals of that season. All withdrawals must be confirmed by Courtney Thomas and you will be issued a cancellation number. Withdrawals after that time will result in a processing fee ($50.00) plus catering costs ($75.00), the balance may be applied to a future event as stated above.
2.33 Cancellation of Entry Due to Car Issues
If an entrant is signed up for the event and has a mechanical issue with the car, and/or has an accident that makes the car unsafe to drive, there are no refunds.
2.35 Transfer Fee
If a driver cancels or changes an entry date, there will be a transfer fee of $75.00
2.4 Submission to Rules
Any person who applies for a license or participates in a VDI event shall agree, without reservation, to the consequences of the Rules.
2.5 Postponement, Abandonment, Cancellation
In the sole and absolute discretion of VDI, an event may be postponed to a later date ("postponement"), abandoned once started ("abandonment"), or canceled prior to the start ("cancellation"). An event will not necessarily be postponed, abandoned or cancelled due to inclement weather. In the event of a postponement, all entry fees shall either be retained by VDI or applied to the rescheduled date, or refunded to the entrant. In the event of a cancellation or abandonment, all or partial entry fees shall be retained by VDI to cover the costs of the canceled or abandoned event.
2.6 Sponsor Money
Participants are free to accept reimbursement of expenses, appearance money, etc. from sponsors.
3. Licenses Required
3.1 Ownership
All participants must be an invited marquee owner.
3.2 Possession of License
Every entrant who registers for an event shall be in possession of a valid state driver's license. Entrants shall present their license to any VDI representative on demand. An entrant must be at least eighteen years of age (sixteen with parental consent) and have a valid driving license in order to participate as a driver in a VDI event. Unless the entrant is in the Young Drivers Program and has parental permission and signed all waivers.
4. Safety Requirements
4.1 MED+STATS
MED+STATS or a similar program is required to be worn and noted on your helmet and car (optional) at all events. MED+STATS is a requirement for participants in Viper Days. The crucial medical information is kept confidential and only available to medical personnel if needed. The system was developed for your safety. MED+STATS must be worn at all times on track property. It is further recommended for all pit crewmembers.
4.2 Restraint Systems
It is highly recommended that the driver seat and passenger seat also be identical. If you attend three or more events in a year you must install 5/6 point restraint systems for both driver and passenger.
Competition Coupes MUST have 5 or 6 point harnesses installed on both driver and passenger if a passenger seat is fitted. And wear an approved head restraint.
5. Conduct
5.1 General Conduct
Drivers and their guests, family members, crewmembers, and spectators shall conduct themselves according to the highest standards of behavior and sportsmanship, particularly in relationship with their competitors and VDI representatives. Drivers are responsible for the behavior and conduct of all guests, family members, crewmembers and spectators attending a VDI event in their company ("participants"). Drivers are also responsible for timely attendance at all driver meetings. Failure to attend a meeting will result in the loss of their first run session and may result in suspension of driving privileges for the day.
5.2 Sportsmanship
All drivers will conduct themselves in a professional manner. The VDI staff, all officials, other drivers, crew or guests will tolerate no verbal or physical abuse. Failure to comply will result with an appearance before the Stewards of the Meet where your actions will be dealt by any of the following: a verbal warning, probation, suspension, and loss of points for day or event or season.
5.3 Legal Releases
All competitors, passengers, family members, crewmembers and spectators must sign all releases as required by VDI representatives and or track officials. Failure to comply will result in their dismissal and removal from track property.
5.4 Alcoholic Beverages, Narcotics, and Dangerous Drugs
Consumption of alcoholic beverages or the use of any narcotic or dangerous drug, as defined by Federal law or by the State in which the event is being held, by drivers, passengers, or crew members before the last car has left the track and the driving event is finished for the day, is expressly prohibited and shall result in immediate expulsion from the event for the driver, crew and passenger.
5.5 Medical Fitness
Medical forms as required by VDI shall be completed and kept on file. Any known medical condition which could adversely affect the driver's ability to perform on track is expressly prohibited, shall be reported to VDI immediately, and such driver shall be excluded from the driving portions of the event. It is the driver's responsibility not VDI's to report any known medical conditions.
6. Flags
The flags described below, or variations as discussed in any drivers meeting, convey the commands or information so indicated. Every driver in PDS, Viper Days, Michelin Challenge Series and VRL is responsible for observing each flag station on each and every lap made around the track. The flags shall be obeyed immediately and without question. Corner workers save LIVES!
6.1 Green Flag
The course is clear. School or open track is underway. Normally the green flag is only displayed at the flag station located on the start/finish line.
6.2 Standing Yellow Flag
Danger, caution, slow down. NO PASSING FROM THE FLAG until past the emergency area.
6.25 Waving Yellow Flag
Immediate Danger, Slow Down, Be Prepared To Stop. NO PASSING FROM THE FLAG until past the emergency area.
6.27 Double Yellow
Double Standing Yellow Flags indicate a full course yellow condition. Slow Down. NO PASSING. When you see a double yellow it will be at ALL stations and denotes a full course yellow. No passing.
6.3 Blue Flag or Blue Flag with Orange Stripe
Be aware that another car is following you very closely or is trying to overtake you. This is not a command to slow down or allow a pass. It is simply informational for your own safety. The flag may be displayed standing or waving depending on the speed with which you are being overtaken.
6.4 Yellow with Red Stripe Flag
Danger, something has changed with the track surface, such as spilled fluids or debris. The track could be very slippery. The flag is displayed standing.
6.5 White Flag
Take care. An ambulance, safety vehicle, or slow moving (e.g., with mechanical trouble) racecar is on the circuit. This flag shall be displayed for two stations prior to the vehicle.
6.6 Black Flag
Closed (furled) - Pointed or shaken at an individual car. Means you have been observed driving in an unsafe or improper manner. If the action continues, you will receive an open black flag.
Open - Proceed directly to the hot pits for a discussion with the Chief Steward. Do not take another lap. Failure to return to pits will result in loss of session.
Open Displayed at all Stations - The session or race has been halted. All cars shall immediately proceed to the hot pits.
6.7 Black with Orange Ball Flag
There is something mechanically wrong with your car. Safely proceed (at a reduced speed) to the hot pits for discussion with the Chief Steward immediately.
6.8 Checkered Flag
The run session or race is over, slow down and finish the lap at a reduced speed to cool down your car. Proceed cautiously to the pit area.
6.9 Red Flag
EXTREME DANGER - the session has been stopped. Come to a controlled stop at the side of the track, within sight of a corner station. Do not move your car or remove your belts or helmet unless or until a corner worker or VDI representative signals you to do so.
